 NEW TO MAPLEMUSIC
After an eight year songwriting hiatus Alannah Myles has re-emerged, energized, with a new album, and has chosen to call it Black Velvet in order to re-connect with her millions of fans. Black Velvet contains all brand new studio recordings along with a new recording with a contemporary arrangement of her classic hit song "Black Velvet", after which the album is named after, from her 1989 self-titled album.
Some observers may be proclaiming the death of the album as an artform in these downloading days, but thankfully Toronto rock band Braintoy didn't get the memo. Elements of progressive and art rock can be detected within the hard rock template, while the empathetic instrumental work hints at the love of jazz shared by band members. They dug deep emotionally and creatively in the making of their debut full-length album, Vehicles, and have now emerged with a truly dazzling disc.
The Mahones were formed in 1990 at the end of the bar at the Toucan Irish Pub in Kingston, Ontario. The world has never been the same since. Their infectious Celtic-Punk sound has led them to seven albums and too many world tours to mention. Now The Mahones have armed themselves with a new CD titled the Irish Punk Collection featuring 17 tracks that stay true to the the band's energetic sound.
Money Money's sophomore album Death By Envy is a testament to the discovery of their true identity as a band. The over-polished, pristine production of their last album has been abolished in favour of screeching feedback and an impenetrable wall of guitar noise. The album was recorded in a mostly live-off-the-floor style in order to capture the intensity of the band’s live performances and help lay the foundation for raw, gritty, yet tasteful production with not a single pick-scratch omitted. Buy your copy now and you will receive a copy autographed by the band!
White Whale Records has released Octoberman's second full-length album, Run From Safety. Upon first listen, it’s evident that Run From Safety is not only an album title but also a bold statement of intent. It sublimely captures the sound of an artist abandoning the tried and true and striking out in unknown directions. While still fuelled by wanderlust, Octoberman’s music continues to remind us that not all journeys can be measured by distance alone.
Juno-nominated God Made Me Funky returns to further develop the Nu-Funk movement with the release of their third album Enter The Beat. The funky ensemble out of Toronto is comprised of a diverse array of musicians ranging from classically trained jazz artists to street-schooled hip hop and R&B vocalists. This diversity creates an eclectic mix of old school hip-hop with a new school twist; funk, rap, rock, and R&B come together to produce the band's "Nu-Funk" genre.

In 2007, Kathleen Edwards went back into the studio to begin work on her upcoming album Asking For Flowers. She placed goals to play with some musicians she had not yet worked with, to commit herself to being precise as well as open-minded, and to have bare-bones folk songs, but also lush instrumental pieces. But most importantly, she wanted to write songs that tell a story, be it hers or someone else’s with honesty and integrity. Those goals were accomplished on this highly anticipated album, available now.
Ridley Bent serves up tall tales, sweet rhymes, and love songs, with a dash of mayhem and murder on the side on his new album, Buckles and Boots. Populated by a cast of modern day desperadoes, lovesick drifters, and small town heroes, Buckles and Boots, is full to the brim with stories you just can't take your ears off.
